Our new Chair of Trustees

life event collections

Our new Chair or Trustees, Lindsay, shares her heart for inHope and the people it serves.

My family and I have lived in the Bristol area for over 30 years, although that includes a few years in North America.  We have raised a family, been part of a local church and have participated in various community focussed activities during that time.

My professional work is as a health professional and researcher, and I currently work for one of the local universities and the NHS.

How have you been involved with inHope?

My husband and I first became involved with inHope when it was known as Crisis Centre Ministries in the 1990’s.  We witnessed its growth and development over the years, but my personal involvement increased when I was invited to become a trustee.  Since becoming a trustee, I have had the privilege to visit all of the services and have been amazed by the in-depth work taking place.

What made you want to become a trustee and subsequently the Chair?

It is over two years since I became a trustee.  The offer to take on the role came at a time when I had begun to make enquiries about volunteering and observation of a Board meeting confirmed to me that I would value the opportunity to participate in this way, even though the responsibility seemed daunting!

The appointment to the role of Chair is the result of a long process amongst trustees and senior staff, which has involved multiple conversations initiated by our outgoing Chair, and much prayer.  I am confident of the support around me and prayerfully hope to be able to bring what is needed to the role at this time.

What skills and passion do you bring?

The role of a trustee is ‘out of sight’, helping the charity to be as effective as possible with the resources that are donated and ensuring that the focus remains on our primary purpose.  As Chair, I hope to continue using skills of planning, organisation and careful consideration.

My passion is to be part of a team that enables the individual services of inHope to continue working together in the best way possible so that, together, we can see improved pathways for transforming lives in our community.

What do you see ahead for the future of inHope and its place in the homelessness sector in Bristol?

I am completely convinced that inHope has a unique and essential role to play in the homelessness sector in Bristol, both through provision for those in need and through our collective expertise gathered over many years.  As described earlier, my hope for the charity is for its constituent parts to work even more seamlessly together to improve pathways out of desperate need, and this will require our continued participation within the wider homelessness sector in the city.

Supporters are welcome to contact Lindsay via the main office and she will aim to reply within 7 days.
