This year, our Christmas appeal is going towards Spring of Hope, which is our shelter for women experiencing homelessness, domestic abuse and addiction in Bristol.
We are delighted to be part of the national matched funding week called the Big Give Christmas Challenge, for the third year running.

2023 has seen many challenges for people in Bristol, with higher food prices, unpredictable energy costs and an ongoing housing crisis. For homeless women like Maria, these challenges are a matter of life or death. In the cold, wet nights of February 2023, Maria was sleeping on Bristol’s streets, lonely, at risk of attack or abuse, and fearing for her life.
Fortunately for Maria, she was spotted by a caring Bristolian and taken to Spring of Hope, where she was offered a bed, a warm meal, a hot shower and some clean clothes. After staying at Spring of Hope for a month, she was able to find a job and somewhere permanent to live.
“When I came here, the staff sat with me and welcomed me. They gave me everything I needed. I was very happy staying at Spring of Hope. I woke up, had a shower and then I got myself breakfast. My clothes were washed and dried overnight by the staff.”
Spring of Hope is now open 365 nights of the year. Eight beds, across four bedrooms, offer women a comfortable place to sleep. An all-female team of staff and volunteers ensure women feel safe. 72* women have stayed at the emergency night shelter in Spring of Hope since it re-opened fully in May 2023
