inHope, a Christian Charity in Bristol, has been running The Life Course since 1991. It has been shaped by years of experience working with hundreds of clients who are recovering from the impact of addiction, homelessness, unsafe relationships and mental health issues.
It is an 18 session course, designed to support participants with life-skills to enable them to build recovery capital, strengthen their emotional sobriety, reduce unnecessary stress, stabilise their tenancy, increase the sense of personal agency for future well-being, and work towards volunteering and a meaningful contribution into society. It has 4 core modules: Self-Care, Mind Matters, Healthy Relationships and Life Management and the materials are a blend of recovery principles, evidence based research and Spiritual wisdom.
A client who had a history of chaotic drug use and unsafe relationships recently said, ”I'm now working, [the job] is right up my street. I'm with my partner… It's such a great feeling to be able to experience a healthy romantic relationship! So many aspects of what my life is like now, involve tools I learnt on the Life Course.”
This taster session is for agencies, organisations, charities or churches interested in running a Life Course in their own context.
The event will enable participants explore the content and methodology of the life course plus evaluation tools and impact data. You will get to hear from others who have started running the course as well as hearing from clients who have been on the course. Lots of time will be given for asking questions and looking at what ongoing support is given whist running a course, plus costs for the franchise will be discussed.
